New Jersey Harassment Law
A person is guilty of harassment if he or she (1) Makes a communication anonymously, during inconvenient hours, using offensive language, or in any other manner that is considered annoying or alarming. (2) Threatens to or actually subjects another person to striking, kicking, shoving, or offensive touching. (3) Engages in alarming conduct or commits acts repeatedly with the intent of alarming or seriously annoying another person.
- Harassment is generally considered a Disorderly Persons Offense and may result in up to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of $1,000
- If a person has harassed another and was in prison, on parole, or probation, this offense is heightened to a 4th Degree Offense, which can result in up to 18 months imprisonment and a fine of $10,000.
